Alderton Associates were commissioned to construct a new residential unit on land between 1D and 1E Columbia Road, Plaistow. The site was an infill of a previously constructed terrace development and was being used as access to car parking at the rear. The site had major social problems with young people gathering and had been the target of considerable vandalism, lighting of fires and anti- social behaviour.
Due to the size of the site, the proposed development had to be restricted to a two-bed residential unit which included a security gate to the rear to provide a safe area for residents to park their cars.

MODERN METHODS OF CONSTRUCTION
The works included design services, acquiring statutory approvals and project management of the construction works. We incorporated PV and heat recovery units to the property.

Once completed, the property offered a single-family dwelling providing a two bed, four-person unit with a GFA of 76m2. The rationale for the design, was to be in keeping with the existing vernacular of the street. The property is of the same size, scale and design as the adjacent properties and offers adequate amenity space in proportion to the dwelling.
