Alderton Associates were instructed to provide a scheme to alter an existing retail unit into a drop-in centre for residential advice and contact. The unit had a small basement area and first floor office to the rear. Access is via a front door opening onto Church Street and has a rear double door at basement area opening into a secure area.

The property is sited on Church Street which is a busy shopping street with many independent shops and a market stall. During the trading hours, the frontage is very busy. The adjacent properties are similar in nature.

RETAIL REFURBISHMENT
We undertook a full measured survey and produced existing and proposed plans for the scheme. Alterations made to the design included the provision of four areas, an area to discuss matters with residents, an office area, meeting room and storage with refurbishment of disabled WC facilities.

The project was on a tight budget so only significant repairs and alterations were undertaken. It was important to keep spend low, so attention was taken to this element of the design. We provided new disabled facilities including a pumped shower, IT facilities throughout, ventilation, a new kitchen and partitions. The alarm system was repaired, and a secure access and egress were detailed. The unit is now being used to address resident’s issues on the adjoining Housing Estate.
