Alderton Associates were commissioned at feasibility stage to design and manage the construction of a new reception teaching block comprising 6 early years classrooms, staff and pupil WCs, offices and an outdoor play area. The innovative design was developed in collaboration with the school and Thurrock Council to create a modern learning space that fulfilled the needs of the early years’ providers.

After a challenging planning process, the works commenced on site in May 2018 and were completed ready for occupation at the start of the new academic year in September 2018. The completed project was extremely well received by the school staff and returning pupils.

OFF SITE CONSTRUCTION

The feasibility study identified that the only viable solution to meeting the tight programme requirements would be to utilise off-site construction. The works were tendered via a framework on a two-stage basis and the main contractor was appointed in February 2018.

Due to the continued occupation of the school and adjacent nursery, careful site management was required throughout the project especially during the installation weekend when the building was delivered to site as 32 separate modules in mid-June 2018.
