Alderton Associates were commissioned at feasibility stage to design and manage the construction of a 7-classroom teaching block with library, offices and pupil WCs. The brief was to create a modern addition to the current building stock with bright teaching spaces for provision of secondary school education.

Alderton Associates produced several feasibility proposals of which the preferred option was selected due to its location on an underused part of the school site with good access to adjacent teaching areas. The design was then developed to ensure a number of ancillary spaces could be created to address a shortfall in office accommodation.

MODERN METHODS OF CONSTRUCTION

The feasibility study identified that the only viable solution to meeting the tight programme requirements would be to utilise off-site construction. The works were tendered via a framework on a two-stage basis and the main contractor was appointed in February 2018.

The building was constructed with a steel frame and insulated wall panels manufactured off-site. The design and project management teams worked closely with the contractor to ensure successful delivery of the project within budget in an extremely challenging timeframe.
